Waiting for Hurricane #Irene brings back memories of 1938

 My great-grandfather, Walter Bradford Chase perished in this event. His car was found at Island Park in Portsmouth RI, so perhaps this wave took him.  My father was born a year later.

Island Park was destroyed by a breaker with a reported height of 30 to 40 feet. The New England Hurricane of 1938 traveled 600 miles in 12 hours, surprising southern New England and causing widespread destruction.
